Okay, here are a few additions to the preceding announcement.

– Regarding last.fm, I forgot to mention that to facilitate the viewing of your listening patterns, you should join #TheCabin’s last.fm group at www.last.fm/group/TheCabin. With enough contributors, the weekly charts will become dynamic and exciting.

– Gabe has suggested that we use del.icio.us to submit site suggestions for the r33tcast. Since several of us already use delicious, creating a separate login for the show would make things cumbersome, what with all the logging in and out of accounts. So, when submitting a site, just make sure that “r33tcast” is one of the tags, and it’ll end up in the right place. I’ll check the r33tcast tag before the show and discuss any sites that I find even remotely appropriate.

That’s all for now. See everyone on Sunday. Stay r33t!

Greetings r33tlings,

The r33tcast, a truly unique podcast of #TheCabin on IRC’s EFNet featuring text-to-speech interaction with IRCers from the channel, makes its triumphant return this Sunday, June 4th at:

EDT: 12pm
GMT: 5pm
Western AU time: 12am

Here are just some of the features you can expect from the new r33tcast.

– weekly cabin quotes from CabinDuDe’s storehouse of #TheCabin history. – cabiner profiles. – weekly music rundown – what we’re listening to – cabin site of the week

In addition, of course, you’ll have to put up with my random banter. If you have any suggestions for additions or improvements to this lineup, feel free to email them to me. Also, please send me recommendations for “cabin site of the week.” At the moment I’m afraid the winner will be chosen by yours truly, the benevolent podcast dictator, but eventually I hope to implement some sort of voting system.

Also, I will be gauging our weekly music listening patterns from last.fm, the music-meets-social-networking site. I’ve written up fairly detailed instructions for getting up and running on my blog at blog.sethwilson.us/2006/05/21/pandorafm/ (disregard the first gossipy paragraph). It’s now much easier to get last.fm working, they’ve released a universal plugin that determines which music program you’re using and automatically submits listened tracks to the last.fm database. Of course, if you can’t be bothered with all that, feel free to send me a list of the ongs you’ve been rockin’/jammin’/groovin’/chillin’ out to lately, and I’ll be happy to announce them on air.

Also, there are several ways to send in voicemail to be played on the show.

– E-mail an MP3 (or .wav, although that would probably get very large) file containing your message to me, either at sethhwilson@googlemail.com or madcow@the-cabin.com. – If you’re in North America or if you have SkypeOut, you can call our regular voicemail number at 619-367-6249. – You can send me a Skype voicemail at username EternalCow.

I think that just about covers it. I hope to see everyone in the channel this Sunday. ‘Til then, stay r33t.

Seth

Sorrow and I have created a cabin guild on the increasingly popular social networking site Gaia Online. Why go to such lengths when The Cabin already has such a r33t site? Well, to be honest, we’re not sure. But I cannot see that evangelizing in the name of r33t is a bad thing. Sure, at least 95% of Gaia members are under eighteen and have an IQ of about the same number. But we’re trying to lure that 5%, the elite, to the Cabin Experience.

It’s quick and easy to create and customize an account. Once done, head to www.gaiaonline.com/guilds/index.php?guild_id=12376 to join the guild. Eventually I’ll create a signature banner so that all postings to Gaia bear the markings of r33t.

Stay r33t.

Yo jigz!

Yes, a new cycle of the r33tcast is in the works, hosted by none other than yours truly. Ellena has also volunteered to co-host at least a couple episodes, contributing among other things the “Crazy azn mom Moment.” This is just one of many gems planned for your listening pleasure. But the r33tcast is by nature a democratic animal. The r33tcast needs you. Any suggestions or contributions would be greatly appreciated. Also, as it stands now the main obstacle to the r33tcast revival is the crappiness of my laptop soundcard; it won’t simultaneously record from the Text-to-Speech IRC software and my mic. So, if anyone would keep a watch out for cheap Audigy soundcards on eBay or elsewhere, it would be greatly appreciated.

Keep it tuned here for progress reports and, eventually, r33t-D-day!

I know I pushed this initiative before with audioscrobbler, but admittedly the site kind of sucked back then and it didn’t have enough power to deal with the amount of people that were trying to use it. Well since then they partnered up with last.fm and (i think) all those issues are gone.
For those of you who wern’t around for that, last.fm takes music you listen to and creates charts and statistics of you and your friends. It also recommends music that you might like. Check out my last.fm page for an example: www.last.fm/user/Gabek/ . It’s a social networking site like MySpace, but just about music.

So. We have a cabin group up at www.last.fm/group/TheCabin. All you need to do, if you haven’t yet, is sign up, and download a plugin for whatever audio player you use (Winamp, iTunes, iPod, fubar2000, etc). After that you do absolutely nothing once you join the group.

It’s quite cool, and i think it’d be neat if the cabin had our statz up there.

Feel free to forward this to any other cabiners. I wish I had Big_BoSs’ email. It’d be interesting to see what he listens to lol.

Stay r33t.

Hey all. I finally got the DVD of my wedding up on OK-HI for all to download. It is split into a bunch of rars, and if you get a corrupted download grab the par files in the same folder and fix it.

http://www.ok-hi.com/thecabin/WeddingDVD/rars/

It has a lot of crap on it. And if you burn it and open it on your PC check the DVD-ROM folder. It’ll have all the wedding photos, photos from the whole Vegas trip, the videos in Quicktime/Windows Media formats, and every songs played at the wedding reception in MP3 format.

If you didn’t have a chance to head to Vegas, head to Michigan, or get online for the wedding reception you can relive it all here on this disc, as long as you have a DVD burner. Some good tunes, lots of photos, and some interesting video.

If you don’t have a DVD burner, and would like to still watch some of the video, some of them are available at www.real-ity.com/weddingvideos/ in quicktime format. But they’re in a tiny little window and not very good quality compared to the DVD.
